Fish Tracking

Students will visit streams feeding into the Kennebec river to inspect culverts, then document and track any restrictions to free fish passage in those streams using the Nexus 7 tablets provided to them by the Map My World project from Google.

Upon completing the data entry of restrictions to free fish passage, students will be able to demonstrate which culverts need to be replaced or rebuilt to eliminate the impasse for the fish. They will use photographs and maps to document these areas of concern, which will be shared with summer camp staff, and local fish & game experts. Results will be recorded on the tablets and shared on line with camp staff to give feedback on the findings. It will also be shared with Fish & Game wardens and local groups such as Trout Unlimited.
