Mixed Media Mask Making

Learner observes demonstrations given by the instructor on building bases for masks and relief-sculpture assemblage out of basic recycled materials (cardboard, paperboard) incrementally adding detail elements over several classes. For masks, the learner experiments with cutting and taping material together developing problem-solving of making 3-D facial features. After a successful base is made, the instructor shows how to add layers of paper mache tissue paper to strengthen it and create a textured surface. Following that, the instructor shows how to use found objects as sculptural elements, adding them gradually, from large pieces to smaller and smaller pieces for detail.

The learner will demonstrate this skill in a final product. The mask will have a detailed construction that is paper mache with tissue paper paying careful attention to craft. Issued for completing the final product.
