Learner follows lesson on revising - usually focusing on structure, adding sensory details, and/or developing specific story elements - and applies the lesson to his or her draft. Students often work with a mentor to target specific parts of the story or piece of writing for development.

Learner has two drafts, the rough draft and the second draft with revisions, and specific elements of the second draft show evidence of making changes in the first draft. First draft should have markings that point to possible revisions. Learner submits notebook to instructor. Instructor checks for evidence of a second draft with revisions.
